Over 60 Homes and Numerous Rice Barns Set on Fire by Junta Forces in Ywangan, Forcing Locals to Flee for Safety
In the eastern part of Shan State, the Danu Self-Administered Zone, Ywangan Township, since the beginning of September, a full-strength junta military column launched an attack on the farmlands and shelters where displaced villagers from Minplaung village were staying, using heavy weapons, forcing the displaced civilians to flee once again, according to local news sources.
The junta military column also burned and destroyed huts, farmlands, and numerous rice barns where displaced villagers from Minplaung were staying. Since the military column is still stationed in the village, local residents continue to suffer, according to reports.
“They camp in the village, cook food, and refill water if needed. We deliver alcohol and cigarettes. We don’t know when they will leave, so we don’t sleep well at night,” said a resident of Kyauktaw village.
Afterwards, a junta military column of over 200 troops advanced on Nyaungpinta and Kyauktaw villages. They have been stationed in these villages, setting fire to and destroying residents’ homes, slaughtering livestock to eat, and taking valuable belongings from inside the houses, according to reports.
The Pyu Saw Htee forces also came from the Pintaya side. There were reportedly over 20 vehicles, including seven cars and several motorcycles. According to a local from Kyauktat village, they collected debts from village shops without paying and took items without asking for permission.
On August 25, they also torched and demolished 37 houses in Kyauktat village before withdrawing their forces. On September 13, a column of around 120 troops reportedly launched another attack, burning and destroying the farmlands and shelters of local residents.
Additionally, on September 14 and 15, they reportedly set fire to and destroyed 23 houses and all the rice barns in Kyauktaw village, causing widespread suffering among the local residents.
In the Ywarngan Township, near Kyauktaw village, civilians are reportedly taking shelter in the surrounding forests and hills due to heavy gunfire, airstrikes, and ground troop advances by the junta military.
The displaced civilians had taken shelter under a hill, but on September 24, due to artillery shelling by the military, the hill collapsed. Rocks, boulders, and soil fell onto one of the refugee camps, reportedly burying and killing a total of 10 civilians.
