Scene of the Arakan Army Prison in Ann's Township Bombed and Attacked

18 March, 2026

In Rakhine State’s Ann Township, Da Lat Chaung area, these are scenes witnessed after the Arakan Army (AA) prison was bombed by the military council’s forces on March 8.

The military council’s troops used four Y-12 aircraft and four jet fighters, with the air force launching relentless bombing strikes from around 11:00 AM to 2:30 PM.

This attack killed 116 soldiers, including those at the rank of brigadier general, and wounded 32 others.

Blocks 4 and 6 were struck first by bombs, causing fires where nearly all inmates in Block 4 burned to death.

Several prisoners in Block 6 suffered severe injuries.

Both bamboo-built camps had their two barracks fully incinerated and collapsed.

The only iron structure, Block 5, housed sick prisoners; one died there, but others escaped. The camp mainly held soldiers from the Western Regional Military Command.

Among the dead were Brigadier General Myint Shwe, other high-ranking officers, majors, and military doctors.
