Four Junta Soldiers Captured in Myin Gyan Clash – Convoy Commander Among Several Killed by Sniper Fire; Military Truck and Ammunition Seized

5 July, 2025

In Mandalay Region’s Myingyan District, a clash broke out between a military convoy transporting supplies and ammunition and the joint defense forces, according to the Zero Guerrilla Force of Myingyan District Battalion 7.

According to internal military sources, the junta troops were reportedly planning to transport weapons and supplies to Ngan Zon, Sone Yar, and Samyake Khone areas. Upon receiving this information, the joint defense forces had been lying in wait at a concealed position near the Ngan Zon–Myingyan Township border since July 30.

Then, at around 7 a.m. on July 3, junta troops traveling in a convoy of five vehicles—accompanied by soldiers providing security on both sides of the vehicles—encountered landmines planted by the joint defense forces at the concealed location.

As a result of the landmine discovery, while junta troops opened fire with their weapons, a sniper from the joint defense forces managed to shoot and kill a convoy commander during the exchange.

“We saw dogs walking on foot toward us. When they reached the spot where we had laid the mines, they discovered them and ran away while firing their guns. We were able to shoot the first convoy commander with a sniper rifle. The sniper shots hit three or four people,” said Colonel Thet Gyi, leader of the Zero Guerrilla Force, Battalion 7, Myingyan District.

During the exchange of fire, as the gunfire gradually subsided, the junta troops began to retreat. When they attempted to regroup and block another route, the joint defense forces, who were lying in wait, fired two RPG rounds and killing around 30 junta soldiers, as reports.

“At the place where we fired the two RPG rounds, quite a lot of them were killed. Later, when we launched a direct attack on that convoy, everyone scattered—running north, running south—and chaos broke out. We personally saw about 30 of them killed,” Colonel Thet Gyi continued.

The junta troops were picking up weapons from their fallen comrades who had been hit and killed by RPG fire. While they were moving toward a vehicle to load the weapons, the joint defense forces launched an attack, capturing both ammunition trucks and supply vehicles.

During the battle, heavy weapons fire support was continuously fired from Ngan Zon town and Myotha. Four junta soldiers were captured during the fighting. One was shot and killed after attempting to seize weapons from the joint defense forces, while another defected and sought refuge after being subjected to intense and harsh military interrogation.

The remaining two junta soldiers will be handed over to the relevant authorities.

The attack was jointly carried out together by the Zero Guerrilla Force of Myingyan District Battalion 7 and Mandalay District Battalion 5.
