Fierce Clashes near Lay Kay Kaw Shut Chinese Casinos and Boat Gates on Thai-Myanmar Border

25 September, 2025

Since September 21, clashes between junta troops and KNLA allied forces have continued in the Lay Kay Kaw area of Myawaddy Township on the Thai-Myanmar border. As a result, boat gates across the Thaungyin River from the Thai side to casino compounds such as KK Park, AA Park, and the 100-acre casino zone—where Chinese money scam gangs and gambling houses are based—have been shut down, according to some casino workers who spoke to People’s Radio Myanmar on condition of anonymity.

"The battle occurred in Lay Kay Kaw with heavy artillery; the Thai army has patrolled the shores and set up a guard. They told the BGF on the Chinese side that they would not allow people to cross the shore, so they have to close the boat gates. They only allow passage for children who go to school, and Thai do not allow to pass the Chinese," he said.

Near the Chinese scam operations and the Lay Kay Kaw battle area, a drone launched by the military on September 23 flew over the KK Park Chinese site, causing explosions nearby, according to reports.

On September 24, artillery fired by the junta exploded near the Thaungyin River area in Mae Taung Village, along the Thai-Myanmar border at Maesot. The Thai border forces reportedly conducted an on-site inspection and sent a letter of protest to the border committees in Myawaddy and Maesot Townships.
