Seven Civilians Injured by Heavy Weapons Fire from Hpakan Strategic Hill

In Kachin State, some civilians were injured after junta forces fired heavy arms from Hpakan Strategic Hill, according to local residents.
On September 9, at around 1 a.m., junta troops fired nearly 20 artillery shells, one of which struck a house next to the Chinese Monastery Middle School in Ward (3) of Seik Mu Village. As a result, three people — schoolteacher Hlaing Min Tun, Zaw Win Naing, and Ko Myo — were injured.
Similarly, junta troops’ shells landed in Bazan Chauk Village, injuring two men and two women, local reports say.
Although Seik Mu Village is occupied by People’s Defense Forces, the military council fired weapons there without any clashes, suggesting the shelling was intended to harm civilians indiscriminately, a local resident from Hpakan said.
“The shelling had nothing to do with any clashes in Seik Mu Village — they fired while they were sleeping. Three people got hit in Ward 3 of Seik Mu, and four more in nearby Bazan Chauk Village, a total of seven. Since Seik Mu is controlled by the resistance forces, they see this as the military just making life miserable for ordinary people,” a local said.
As often happens from Hpakan Strategic Hill, villages were shelled with heavy weapons without any clashes, leaving no fewer than 10 people injured in September.
Since the first week of August, conflict has flared up again in Hpakan between junta forces and the KIA and KPDF, and the area remains militarily tense to this day.
