According to local residents, the suspect who stabbed three family members with a knife on Aung Mingalar Road, Yekyaw, Ward No. (9), Hpa-an Town, Kayin State, has been arrested.

At around 3:30 a.m. on July 13, a man who was unable to repay borrowed money climbed onto the house while the homeowners were asleep. When the female homeowner saw him, he stabbed all three family members with a knife. The man and the daughter died, while the woman is reportedly receiving emergency medical treatment.

“He had borrowed money from the deceased family. It’s said there were some arguments after the lender asked for it back. That’s probably why he went in at night. The amount was around 5 million kyats," said a resident from Hpa-an.

The perpetrator of the crime returned home after the incident, changed his clothes, and even helped carry the bodies of the victims he had killed when the rescue teams arrived shortly afterward, the resident added.

"After stabbing them with a knife, he went back home, changed his clothes, and when the rescue team arrived, he even helped carry the bodies of the child and the father. He thought everyone was dead, but the woman actually survived. She later told the police what happened and said he was the one who did it. When the police went to arrest him, he denied everything. They took him to the hospital, and when they showed him to the sister, she confirmed it was him. But he still kept denying it. For now, he’s being held in custody at the station," the source said.

The perpetrator of the crime is a member of the Karen Peace Council armed group and has a pregnant partner, according to reports.

“The victims’ families are worried that they won’t get justice. I heard the defendant’s family members are supporting him. His wife is pregnant, and the defendant himself says he’s a member of a peace group,” said a resident of Hpa-an.

The woman who was stabbed but did not die is still receiving treatment as a patient under observation at Hpa-an General Hospital.

Currently, the perpetrator, Nyunt Win, is under investigation at the Hpa-an Town Police Station under case number (Pa) 87/2025, charged with Sections 302 and 326.
