In Tanintharyi Region, Tanintharyi Township, near Thein Khun Village, clashes have occurred between the military council troops and the revolutionary forces. A jet fighter that came to drop bombs was fired upon by the revolutionary forces and was hit, according to reports.
From September 9 to 12, fierce clashes occurred between the two sides, and junta troops carried out almost daily airstrikes, said Padoh Saw Eh Nar, secretary of the Myeik–Dawei District.
“They are bombing the area where the clashes occurred. They are carrying out continuous airstrikes. Every day. The junta reinforces its troops,” he said.
On September 12, in Thein Khun Village, where clashes were ongoing, junta troops carried out two airstrikes—one around 12:00 PM and another around 4:00 PM, according to reports.
The junta’s warplane, which had dropped bombs, was shot at by the revolutionary forces. The plane caught fire and turned back toward the Myeik Air Base headquarters, according to Padoh Saw Eh Nar,
“We can't say what we fired. We saw smoke coming out and immediately turned back,” he said.
During the airstrike, one comrade on the side of the revolutionary forces was killed, according to the revolution forces’ news sources.
Since December last year, the junta's column forces have been launching operations because they want to regain control of the trade route in the Maw Taung area along the Thailand–Myanmar border. However, having been unable to make further advances, they have continued carrying out airstrikes.
